Hands down the best massage I’ve ever had. Ofelia is very skilled and listens to your individual needs. I always leave feeling completely relaxed and looking forward to the next visit.
Ofelia is so amazing at what she does, I moved out of state 3 years ago and make sure to book with her whenever I come to town. I’ve never found a masseuse as good as her and the other Muscle Relaxers’ staff.
I had a career that had me traveling, almost nonstop. As a result, I was always looking for a good massage therapist in my travels, to relieve the aches, pains and stress. I had the good fortune of discovering Ofelia at The Muscle Relaxers. HANDS DOWN, it was the best treatment I have received anywhere in the United States. This establishment is highly recommended. My only regret is that I do not live in that area and cannot avail myself of their services monthly. Ofelia is very pleasing to talk with, highly educated, and technically proficient. Beyond those attributes, you can tell she’s in a field that she was born to be in. Just her personality and presence is therapeutic in itself.
At The Muscle Relaxers, we pride ourselves in listening to our clients, truly feeling what the body’s needs, and creating a custom massage in Atlanta using a wide variety of techniques to resolve symptoms and conditions. We are different in that we charge by the time spent on the body, not the style of massage. This is because our therapists use a large many techniques to accomplish muscle tension release and because an effective massage may require more than one particular approach. Swedish massage- which uses effleurage and rhythmic tapotement percussion-might be used at first to warm up the muscles, followed by deep tissue, and then maybe neuromuscular therapy (NMT) and reflexology on the feet. The client does not have to worry about what massage style will be best for them. You can rest assured that our therapists will discern the best style of massage for you to create a custom massage to meet your goals.

We use three platforms for Buckhead massage therapy: on a mat, on a massage table, or in a massage chair. Thai Yoga massage is done on the floor with a mat and traditional massage modalities (such as Swedish, Deep Tissue, NMT,etc.) are done on a massage table. Chair massage is used for on-site events, such as corporate massage at business offices, health fairs, bridal showers, and bachelorette parties etc. We can accommodate those with disabilities either in a massage chair or on their wheelchair. Elevator access and no stairs are required to get into the building.
Our main specialty is neuromuscular therapy (NMT) or trigger point therapy. The technique is based on documented trigger points that lie in the body that have been shown to cause specific patterns of pain. If you can reproduce the pain by pressing on a trigger point, you can help heal it. Sometimes the trigger point is located in an area different than where the pain is felt, thus “triggering” the sensation. If you feel something triggering during the massage, please let your therapist know. It is quite an odd sensation, but shouldn’t be painful. There are many trigger points in the body- most are inactive- so they will not trigger a sensation to another area. Most trigger points will feel good to have pressed and some will be tender. Please communicate if something is ever uncomfortable. Interestingly, many trigger points are located in the same points as acupuncture points.
We are proud to offer Thai Yoga Massage and can also do this style for couples in the same room. Thai Yoga Massage (also known as just Thai Massage) is performed on a thick mat laid on the floor. This unique form of massage originally hails from India, but made popular in Thailand by the Buddhist monks. The client is gently manipulated into various passive stretches, along with compression, and massage. Think of it as having all of the benefits of going to a yoga class, but without actually having to put in the effort. This is why they call it “the lazy man’s yoga.” The result is a relaxed, calm state of mind and obviously very relaxed muscles. Some people report feeling lighter and longer. It is hard to describe the feeling, but is something from which almost everyone can benefit (not recommended during pregnancy). It is especially great for athletes (who can always use more stretching) travelers, office workers, or anyone who feels their body is “stuck.” We have had training in both the states as well as in Chiang Mai, Thailand from PichetBoonethumme, one of the master teachers known worldwide. If you’d like to try Thai Massage in Atlanta, please make sure to specify that when making an appointment. Also, be sure to wear loose-fitting or stretchy workout clothes.
Deep tissue massage strokes are generally done on large muscle groups such as the hamstring and glutes. The therapist uses more pressure for this style, and it is effective in releasing tension to overworked and overused muscles. It is a stronger than the Swedish massage which is very relaxing, brings circulation to muscles and very light in pressure. Some “muscle stripping” might be done as well- this is pressure applied in a gliding motion (often using the forearm, elbow, or thumbs) along the length of the muscle cells. “Friction” is similar but the massage goes against the grain of the muscle to release tension and any muscle adhesions. In combination these techniques help release knots and rigid muscles which can block circulation, cause inflammation, and reduce the range of motion.
For those women who are expecting, we love offering Prenatal Massage- it’s like giving one massage for two people! Massage therapy during pregnancy can benefit the mother by reducing discomfort, encouraging circulation, lymph movement, and relaxing tension which can help with sleep, anxiety, and depression. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage also relieves typical conditions experienced with pregnancy, such as stiff necks, leg cramps, swelling, headaches and back aches. Unlike traditional massages, Prenatal Massage is more gentle and we use pillows to cradle you. Comfort is of utmost importance and we will do whatever necessary to make sure you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience. The owner, Ofelia Sierra, is also a doula so make sure to ask about doula services if you are interested.
Massage Therapy has been around since the ancient Egyptians, over 4,000 years ago. Massage developed alongside athletics in ancient Greece and China, so it is no surprise that it is used among athletes today. As you can see, there are many different modalities of massage in modern times. The end goal is to physically relax the muscles, but finding calmness and quieting the mind are also achievable. Other benefits include increasing serotonin, as sleeping better, lymphatic drainage (or lymphatic stimulation) pain relief, increased circulation, and stress relief.
Whatever type of massage you should get, our therapists’ goal is to accommodate you to achieve maximum results and get what some have said is “the best massage in Atlanta.” Need more pressure? Would you like heat therapy? Aromatherapy during your massage at no extra charge? Don’t be afraid to let us know. Communication is key in a good relationship with your massage therapist. We have a good sense of what it takes to please you, but please speak up so we can get to know you and your body.
